Has This Ever Happened to You?

Say you're in church and you see a cute guy that you remember from high school and . . .

Ok, this whole "theoretical" situation tense thing is hard to do.  Here's what went down:
I go to a church on the George Mason University campus.  Well, every year after Christmas they don't have services on Sunday until the students come back from Christmas break.  Kinduv like their own little vacation.  Anyway, for about three or four weeks we go to another church in the area.  We tried a new church last Christmas season and I randomly looked over and saw a guy I knew from high school.  He was one year younger than me when we first met in French class (I was a junior, he was a sophomore).  That and the fact that he was pretty popular in his class and I was totally enamored with a senior at the time, meant that I didn't think of him as potential boyfriend material, but he was still a really nice guy to talk to.  I hadn't seen him for 6 years but I definitely recognized him! 1.  He was cute 2.  He'd never been a slacker in school so I assumed he was doing well in college and 3.  He was at church with his mom and dad!  If you can't say "perfect boyfriend material" I don't know when you can!

Anyway, I saw him two Sundays in a row but once school started I never saw him again.  I went back to the church on multiple weeks but never saw him.  Then I thought well maybe he's still in school, but summer came and still no cute guy.  Well last week I decided to try and figure out if I could find any information out on facebook.  I mean maybe he moved down to Texas or something.

Well, I'm pretty sure you all can guess what I found.  Pictures.  His profile picture for one, but lots of pictures as well full of him and a small, blond, thin sorority girl.  Pretty much everything I'm not (sigh).

And I know that I had absolutely no chance of dating him really (ok maybe a 1% chance in real life) but for a split second you almost imagine that you would somehow reconnect and finally have found the guy you'll marry and have beautiful babies with!  Then you see the pictures of the blond petite barbie and this split second dream is dashed.

I'm really trying to not sound stalkerish or anything, I'm just trying to say that this guy checked some of my most important boxes (things I could tell without talking to him lol).
1.  Goes to church
2.  Loves his parents
3.  Is attractive

So far in my life I have met three guys who check these boxes.  All three are confident, smart, religious, and nice guys.
The first guy on this list, I dated when I was a sophomore.  The timing was never right for us, but I still think of him as the one who got away.  (I sometimes day dream about him moving out to DC and us meeting up again and rekindling a romance, but since he's been dating his current gf for almost two years I'm expecting to hear news of their engagement way before that day dream would come true. Sigh.  If it was meant to be it was, or wasn't, meant to be right?).

I've often thought I should right romantic fiction.  Think it would be a good fit?!  Haha.  Don't answer that.

The second guy didn't check all the boxes for me personally, but if any other girl found herself the object of his affection she would be very lucky to have him!  I met him when I went on a trip to Italy back in college.  He was very grounded and funny and smart.  I wish him all the best

And now this guy.

So I know boys like this do exist!  I just haven't found the one who is perfect for me yet.  But I cross my fingers every day.  Here's hoping!

My Prince Charming

As of today, September 20, 2012, the day that is two days before Sarah's birthday, the day that Rebecca tells me will go down in history because One Direction's new single leaked, the day that is Thursday and tomorrow is Friday, the day that is two days before I will run a 10k with my mom, I thought it would be a good idea to write a list of all the qualifications my future husband will need.  If I ever go on match.com I'll just post this list and see who fits the criteria.  This will cut down the amount of time I would have wasted on a guy who didn't meet the items on this list!  I will also share the things I won't compromise on, the things my future husband can't do.  If he does anything on that list it's an immediate "have a nice life."

Now I realize that these lists will change which is why I'm writing them down now!  I want to look back and be able to see what is important to me now and what will be important to me then.  I want to one day find the perfect man for me and realize that my lists mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.  But right now I'm single and hey a girl's gotta start somewhere right?!  Ok here goes:

My Prince Charming Must:

1.  Be Catholic
2.  Go to church every Sunday
3.  Like Harry Potter
4.  Like the Olympics
5.  Be active/fit (works out regularly)
6.  Be healthy (no fast food or fried junk food all the time, I realize some is ok)
7.  Want kids
8.  Be ok with adoption if kids aren't happening
9.  Be ok with disabled/down syndrome/high needs children if they happen
10.  Have a college degree
11.  Have a job or be actively looking for a job
12.  Love Colorado (because I want to live there some day)
13.  Appreciate/accept my need to wear cute dresses and shoes and accessories.  He doesn't have to understand the clothes I wear, he just has to think I look good in them.

My Prince Charming Cannot:

1.  Smoke
2.  Do drugs
3.  Play video games
4.  Be homophobic
5.  Drink heavily (i.e. pass out/puke)
6.  Be completely tattooed (one or two are ok I guess)
7.  Have a beard or any such facial hair
8.  Want pets (I'm allergic, like miserable allergic.  Fish are ok.  Turtles are too but they give you salmonella)
9.  Be from KU

So far that's all I can think of.  Have I missed any?  I will probably update this post at a later date as I meet new guys and find new qualities I can't live with and can't live without :)

Why I don't have any peanut butter

I went to reach for some peanut butter the other morning and realized that I didn't have any on the shelf.  I normally keep a jar of peanut butter on the shelf next to me at work so I can use it for breakfast.  Over the weekend I normally make pancakes and I make enough to bring for breakfast during the week.  Pancakes by themselves don't make you full for very long so I add peanut butter, and keeping a jar of peanut butter at the office is a  lot easier than bringing individual little containers of peanut butter to work every day.
But today I had no peanut butter.

No worries.  I knew I had one in my car.

Why you ask?  Why do I have a back-up jar of peanut butter in my car?  Am I that addicted to peanut butter that one second without some is a travesty?  Would I someday need a snack on the way home from work?  Do I get stranded in snow storms too far away to walk to civilization and have to survive on peanut butter for three days?!  (Although that is a good idea to keep in my trunk next to my shovel and sand and jumper cables).
Well the long and short of it is it was because of a boy.
No, random boys I meet aren't worried about my safety in snow storms and tell me stock up on peanut butter.  It was for baking.
A boy I know, who I knew in high school (he was my prom date) wanted to meet up again now that we are living in the same city.  For reasons too long for this post I will never, ever date this guy (something about him not respecting me and not having the same values).  And I've told him this.  Extensively.  In words like "I will never date you and don't want to see you again."  Apparently to him this means he still has a chance and "wants to be friends."  Gag.  Whatever, maybe he has cute friends.  I know his roommate is gorgeous.  So when he wanted to hang out at his house and cook dinner I offered to make dessert.
1. It would give me something to do
2.  It wouldn't require me sitting on a couch next to him and watching a movie
3.  I could leave after dinner with an adequate excuse of having to go to work tomorrow
Being a boy he has absolutely nothing to do with baking.  He didn't even have flour.  So after work I swung by the grocery store and picked up individual packages of flour and sugar and hersheys kisses and peanut butter (I was making peanut butter blossoms is you couldn't guess).  Well he calls after I check out saying that he was stuck at work and wouldn't be able to get to his house for another hour (let alone get dinner started.  I'm having visions of my bedtime getting later and later).  So I could go sit outside his house for an hour or I could go home.
I chose to go home since it was 100 degrees outside and sitting in a car would be brutal and I really just didn't want to see him or hang out.  Once I got home I just left the stuff in the trunk of my car thinking I could keep it there in case he ever wanted to reschedule and I didn't want to bring it all in.  Too much effort.
When he did reschedule I decided to make a labor intensive caramel brownie recipe to eat up even more time.  This didn't need peanut butter but I just figured I'd leave it in the trunk of my car to have a replacement when the one at my office ran out.
So the other day rolls around, I have no peanut butter, I go down to the car to get the extra jar, and THERE IS NO PEANUT BUTTER!  What happened to it?!  Where did it go!?!?
Turns out my mother was helping my get groceries out of the back of my trunk a week or so ago, asked me about the fact that there was brown sugar and vanilla in the trunk, and must have taken the peanut butter inside.  Thing is she left the flour and vanilla and brown sugar in the car trunk . . .
Whatever.  Point is that my mom stole the peanut butter out of my trunk and I had to eat pancakes without peanut butter!  Oh the horror.
So I brought the stolen jar to work with me.

It only had one small scoop taken out of it.

I used it on half a panera bagel.  It was yummy.

Thus ends my peanut butter saga.
I'm sure you wanted to know all that.
But that's the reason.
